Bandai's Pair Match in Star Trek: The Next Generation

This one is pretty cool, I'm not sure what the purpose of these are in the show: Bandai's Pair Match
was used on the set of Star Trek: The Next Generation as a prop on the dining tables of Ten-Forward. It's hard to miss
once you are familiar with the game (and I've been re-watching a lot of TNG lately). I just started to notice it in season 3, but
it's possible they were there in seasons 1 & 2 as well (and so far I've also seen them in seasons 4-6).
I hadn't seen anyone actually interact with one until Season 5, and it appears it's being used as a game.

These are from Season 3: First is from Ep 2: Ensigns of Command, the second is from Ep 10: Defector.

Here's one from Season 5, Ep 16- Ethics. In this scene, it's actually being played with
(although incorrectly which is obvious when watching the video,
Alexander is just constantly pushing on the buttons):
